Sofia Ahmad (Octavia / Poppea / Ensemble) is very happy to return to the Magic for another Hot House, having appeared in last season’s The Black Eyed. Local credits include: San Francisco Shakespeare Festival (Hero in Much Ado), San Jose Stage (Treasure of the Sierra Madre), Shotgun Players (Caucasian Chalk Circle), CCT (I Hate Hamlet), New Conservatory, Cutting Ball and Golden Thread. A handful of years ago, she was a competitive ballroom dancer and has taught and/or competed in New York, England, Italy and the Bay Area. Sofia holds a BFA from New York University, where she studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory. Many thanks to this stellar group of collaborators. |

David Cramer* (Seneca / Narcissus / Ensemble) has a BFA from the University of New Mexico, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, HB Studios in New York and Harvey Lembeck’s Comedy Improv workshop in LA. Local theatre credits (among others): Quills with Shotgun Players, Magic Theatre's Ted Kaczinski Killed People With Bombs and the award-winning Word For Word/Shotgun Production Winesburg, Ohio. Principle roles in television include The Waltons, M*A*S*H*, Battlestar Galactica, Nash Bridges among others. He dedicates these performances to Sally. This is for you, Mom. |

Drew Hirshfield* (Nero), a Bay Area native, has worked for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Sacramento Theatre Company, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Marin Shakespeare and Summer Repertory Theatre. He holds a BA from UC Davis and is currently a third-year student in ACT's MFA program. He most recently appeared at ACT in A Christmas Carol and in the ACT MFA Program’s production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle. He is delighted to make his Magic Theatre debut. |

Andrew Hurteau* (Boccaccio / Burrus / Tigillinus / Ensemble) Nero marks Andrew’s fifth full production at the Magic. He appeared in last year’s Hot House in Chris Smith’s production of The Rules of Charity. He has also been seen in John O’Keefe’s Brönte, Charles Mee’s Summertime and in Shrödinger's Girlfriend. He understudied Faustus in David Mamet’s Dr. Faustus and he has worked on countless readings and workshops in this very room. Elsewhere, he was seen most recently in California Shakespeare Theatre's Nicholas Nickelby, Parts I and II, playing 10 characters. He’s appeared at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Aurora Theatre Company, Marin Theatre Company and Word for Word, among others. He spent the Fall working on his most important project: Chloe Irene Hurteau, born August 26th. |

Catherine Smitko* (Agrippina / Dressing Woman / Ensemble - Nero) A Chicago native, Catherine was most recently seen as Domina in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Marriot Theatre. Other theatre credits include Chicago Shakespeare’s NEA Tour of Romeo and Juliet; The Rose Tattoo, Heartbreak House and A Christmas Carol at The Goodman Theatre; Future City Homosexual Tells All at The Theatre Building and Chicago at Court. She has performed her cabaret act, Black and Blue, at the Royal George Theatre and toured with it in Sweden. She has also performed with MCA recording artists Blue Meanies. Ms. Smitko's voice has been recorded for radio, theatre and commercials. |

Karen Runk* (Stage Manager) moved to San Francisco with the intention of only staying for a few months. Nine years later she’s still here! This is largely due to the talented folks at the San Francisco Mime Troupe where she’s stage managed a plethora of summer shows. Karen has also stage managed with SF Shakes: The Winter’s Tale and Aladdin and with Magic Theatre: True West, A Question of Mercy, Mules, Gum, Eyes for Consuela and The 13 Hallucinations of Julio Rivera. Runk always enjoys working with the Magic and hopes to work with them again real soon. Raquel Barreto (Costume Design) has been designing for theatre and dance since 1998. Her collaborations with Bay Area companies include designs for The San Francisco Lyric Opera (Un Ballo in Maschera), Campo Santo (References to Salvador Dalí…), The Cutting Ball Theater (Macbeth, AvantGardarama, The Vomit Talk of Ghosts, Roberto Zucco, As You Like It), the UC Berkeley Center for Theater Arts (The Three Sisters, Shrew You!, Great Men of Science, Pterodactyls, Talbot´s Box). In San Diego her designs have been on the stage at La Jolla Playhouse and the San Diego Museum of Art. A native of Brazil, she received an MFA from UC San Diego and currently teaches Costume Design at UC Berkeley. Joshua Raoul Brody (Music Director) is pleased as punch to be back at Magic Theatre, where he made his debut as the music director for Love in the Third Degree by O-lan Jones and Kathleen Cramer in 1985. (Coincidentally, Cramer's brother David is in tonight’s production!) Since then he has had his hand in a number of other productions at the Magic, including Z Space’s Hitting for the Cycle. These days he spends most of his time accompanying Merle Kessler – their next collaboration, Slouching Toward Disneyland, should be appearing soon – and improvisational theatre. www.jraoul.org. Russell Champa+ (Light Design) Current and recent projects include The Other Side at Manhattan Theatre Club and The Right Kind Of People at Primary Stages in NYC. In the Bay Area, Russell has designed for ACT, Berkeley Rep, CalShakes and Magic Theatre. On Broadway, Russell designed Julia Sweeney's God Said "Ha!" at the Lyceum Theatre. Other New York theatres Russell has designed for include Classic Stage Company, New York Stage & Film and La Mama etc. Regionally, Russell has designed for Wilma Theatre, Seattle Rep, Trinity Rep, McCarter Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre; Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Actors' Gang, The Kennedy Center. Welcome Jasper! Peace. Melpomene Katakalos (Set Design) returns to the Magic after seven years when she designed Stones in His Pockets. She has designed scenery for La Jolla Playhouse, ACT MFA Program, SF Mime Troupe, Aurora Theatre, Intersection for the Arts, Playwrights Foundation, SF Shakespeare Festival, Traveling Jewish Theatre and Shotgun Players. She is also a founding member and artistic associate of Crowded Fire, a San Francisco theatre company dedicated to producing new and contemporary works. In 2004, she won the San Diego Playbill Award for her design for the West Coast premiere of Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice, directed by Daniel Fish, and in 2005 for Marat/Sade, directed by Stefan Novinski. She received her MFA in design from UCSD. Thanks to Timmy always. Norman Kern+ (Sound Design) is an award-winning designer, composer and engineer who has worked throughout the Bay Area. Recent credits include MTC’s Killer Joe and the world-premiere musical River’s End. Mr. Kern is excited about returning to the Magic where he worked on Edna O’Brien’s Family Butchers, Charles Grodin’s The Right Kind of People and Rebecca Gilman’s Blue Surge. He has won awards for The Music Lesson, Misalliance and The Woman in Black. As a recording engineer/music producer he has worked with Eddie Money, Pete Escovido and Bill Graham Presents.
