Playwright & Director

 

David Rambo (Playwright) David’s God’s Man in Texas premiered at the 23rd Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville and went onto be performed at The Old Globe, Geffen Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Alliance Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Hippodrome Theatre, The Florida Stage, Tennessee Rep, Arkansas Rep, Mill Mountain Playhouse and Warehouse Theatre. He has adapted numerous screenplays for the stage including All About Eve, Sunset Boulevard and Adam’s Rib. David wrote the new book for the highly successful Geffen Playhouse revival of the Lerner & Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon. His one-woman play based on the life and letters of Ann Landers, The Lady with All the Answers, premiered last summer at The Old Globe in San Diego. Currently he’s at work on a stage adaptation of the Sinclair Lewis novel Babbitt, while on the writing staff of the hit CBS TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

   
 

Art Manke (Director) is a Los Angeles based director whose recent work includes Private Lives and the American Premiere of Noel Coward’s Star Quality, both for the Pasadena Playhouse, and a new musical version of The Wind in the Willows for South Coast Repertory. Mr. Manke last worked at the Magic as an actor in The House of Yes running for six sold out months. He co-founded A Noise Within, L.A.’s acclaimed classical repertory company and served as artistic director for 10 seasons directing the plays of Shakespeare, Sophocles, Moliere and Wilde. Other credits include work with ACT, Mark Taper Forum, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Old Globe Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, American Players Theatre, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, the VITA and California Shakespeare Festivals. He holds an MFA from ACT, and for television currently directs for the UPN’s hit sitcoms, Eve and One on One.

Charlie Shaw Robinson* ( Lawrence - Ice) was last seen as Ross in Edward Albee’s The Goat at ACT. New York Theatre: The Common Pursuit, The Cradle Will Rock, The Cruelties of Mrs. Schnayd. Regional Theatre: Hamlet ( Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park), Pericles (Center Stage, Baltimore), Scaramouche (Empty Space, Seattle). Favorite Bay Area roles: Homebody/Kabul (Berkeley Rep), Othello (CalShakes), Magic Fire (Berkeley Rep/Old Globe), The Pharmacist’s Daughter (Magic Theatre). Designers and Crew

Steven Cahill+ (Original Music/Sound Design) received three LA Ovation nominations for his designs of Driving Miss Daisy, A Streetcar Named Desire and Defying Gravity all at Rubicon Theatre Company. Some recent highlights: Private Lives (director Art Manke, LA Times Critics' Choice), Doubt (West Coast Premiere) and Bicoastal Woman (World Premiere) all at Pasadena Playhouse; A Naked Girl on the Appian Way (Richard Greenberg - World Premiere) and Cyrano De Bergerac at South Coast Repertory. Steven produced the music for Stars on Ice 2006 (international tour) and Fox's Skating With Celebrities. www.stevencahill.com.

Callie Floor (Costume Design) is happy to return to Magic Theatre. Callie earned her BFA from the University of Utah and her higher diploma in Theatre Design from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London. In the Bay Area, she has designed for many companies including ACT, ACT Conservatory, Zaccho Dance Theatre, San Francisco Mime Troupe and West Bay Opera. Recent projects include The Hopper Collection for the Magic and Manon Lescaut for West Bay Opera. Upcoming projects include A Number for ACT. Ms. Floor is the resident designer for California Revels and holds the position of Costume Rentals Supervisor at ACT.

Kurt Landisman+ (Light Design) is pleased to return to Magic Theatre where he designed lighting for Family Butchers, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball and Edna O’Brien’s Triptych in 2003, which received the Bay Area Theatre Critics’ Circle Award for Best Lighting. He designed lighting for numerous new works at the Magic back in the 80’s and 90’s, most notably the world premieres of Sam Shepard’s True West and Fool for Love. His lighting designs have been seen at most Bay Area theatres and have received numerous Bay Area Critics Circle and Drama-Logue Awards. Nationally, his designs have been seen in practically every state in the Union, as well as Off-Broadway in New York. Internationally his designs have been seen in Tokyo, Singapore and Shanghai.

Robert Mark Morgan+ (Set Design) Credits include: A Moon for the Misbegotten and The Dazzle at ACT as well as Major Barbara (Bay Area Critics’ Circle Award) and Bad Dates for San Jose Repertory Theatre. At Denver Center Theatre Company: Jesus Hates Me, Lobby Hero, Almost Heaven, Behind the Broken Words, Bernice & Butterfly and Copenhagen. Other credits: Just Stopped By to See the Man at The Old Globe and The Subject Tonight is Love for Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Rob just completed the design for the 2005 Sea Lion & Otter Show at Sea World in San Diego.
