THE ICE-BREAKER

directed by Art Manke

March 11 - April 9 , 2006
(Theatre-Intensive Weekends: March 24-26, March 31-April 2, April 7-9)
Sam Shepard Theatre

a presentation of The Magic Theatre / Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Initiative

A young PhD student on the verge of a momentous discovery seeks an ally in a disgraced genius. Cold science gives way to warm emotion, leading them to reveal the passions and demons that drive their quests.

Having received national attention for his play God’s Man in Texas, David Rambo is an up-and-coming talent in the regional circuit. As a writer for the hit television series Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), he has considerable experience bringing together the worlds of science and entertainment. Art Manke, who was a founder and artistic director of the acclaimed A Noise Within in Los Angeles (1991-2001), will direct. Manke is a veteran actor and director of theatre and television, making his return to the Magic, where he previously appeared in the critically-acclaimed and extended hit The House of Yes by Wendy MacLeod.

HOT HOUSE’06 Executive Producers - Nicola Miner & Robert Mailer Anderson

The Ice-Breaker was originally commissioned by ASK Theatre Projects and The Geffen Playhouse, Los Angeles, CA (Gilbert Cates, Producing Director, Randall Arney, Artistic Director, Stephen Eich, Managing Director). The Ice-Breaker was developed by Denver Center Theatre Company, Denver, CO (Donovan Marley, Artistic Director)

The Ice-Breaker is a part of National New Play Network’s Continued Life Project and will be performed as a “rolling world premiere” at Borderlands Theater, Tucson, AZ (Barclay Goldsmith, Producing Director) and New Repertory Theatre, Watertown, MA (Rick Lombardo, Producing Artistic Director).
