FAMILY BUTCHERS
by Edna O'Brien
directed by Paul Whitworth

September 24 - October 23, 2005
Northside Theatre

A new work by the internationally-acclaimed Irish novelist and the author of 2003's award-winning hit Triptych. (Top 10 Productions of 2003 – The San Francisco Chronicle) A woman returns home to the heart of rural Ireland to forgive and be forgiven. Times have changed, but the shadow of a domineering patriarch continues to loom over the family.

Family Butchers is a beautifully rendered depiction of an Irish family trying to hold onto their family farm through the changing times in the 1970’s. Observing this time of social change through a minutely personal lens, Edna O’Brien approaches the complicated relationships of this large clan with the sardonic wit and humor that has become her trademark throughout her successful writing career. Her seventeen books include many best-sellers A Fanatic Heart, The Country Girls Trilogy, Time and Tide, Down By The River and House ofSplendid Isolation to name a few.

The production reunites the production and design team from Triptych, including director Paul Whitworth. Mr. Whitworth is the acclaimed artistic director of Shakespeare Santa Cruz and is a veteran director and actor in the Bay Area.
