triptych
a world premiere by Edna O'Brien
directed by Paul Whitworth
december 2, 2003 - january 4, 2004
Sam Shepard Theatre

Three women (mistress, wife, and daughter) uncover their passion for the same man and confront the ways that love can simultaneously liberate and entrap. This lyrical and captivating drama weaves together their stories to construct the portrait of a man through the eyes of the women who love him.

Irish novelist Edna O'Brien, who caught the public’s eye with her critically-acclaimed The Country Girls Trilogy, has had an impressive nine books banned in her native country, but has won multitudes of admirers and numerous awards (including the Kingsley Amis Award for fiction, the Yorkshire Post Novel Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize) around the world for her explorations of sex, marriage, religious upbringing, and predatory relationships. Triptych is her first world premiere in the US since 1985.

SF CHRONICLE'S HIGHEST RANKING: "intriguingly original… emotionally brave and engagingly clever... Brothers gives a galvanizing performance... Bruneau is luminously magnetic." – R. Hurwitt, SF Chronicle (Read the review)
