As part of the Sloan Initiative, The Magic Theatre created the Sloan Slam, a four day festival where five newly commissioned plays were read by twenty-nine actors and directed by five director/dramaturges. These five developmental readings were held during the week of April 23, 2006, giving director/dramaturges the opportunity to cast and rehearse five plays commissioned in 2004/2005 season. Sloan Initiative Program Director and Literary Manager, Mark Routhier, and Chris Smith, Artistic Director of Magic Theatre were in attendance at all readings and met with each playwright/director/dramaturgy team afterwards to assess and discuss the plays.
