The Sloan Initiative: BioAgenda Summit 2006

In an effort to bridge the gap between scientific and artistic communities, The Sloan Initiative hosts conferences with theatre pieces exploring scientific topics and panel discussions comprised of leading scientists for an assembly of artists. The Sloan Initiative furthered it’s mission to cross-pollinate the disciplines when it opened The BioAgenda 2006 Summit on March 8, 2006 with a presentation of four excerpts of contemporary plays and a 19th century play. The BioAgenda 2006 Summit is a 2-1/2 day forum in Palm Springs, CA, filled with presentations and panels focused on crucial issues in biotech and life sciences. Unlike other programs that focus mostly on finance and science, BioAgenda is described as a summit that will cover economics, law, science, politics, ethics, society, communication, and culture,  As this year’s BioAgenda, entitled “On the Edge of New,” focused on evolution, the theater pieces presented by the Sloan Initiative centered around the evolution of art and science through the ages. The excerpts presented at the summit by the Sloan Initiative were:  Henrik Ibsen’s ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE (1888), David Rambo’s THE ICE-BREAKER (2006), Michael Hollinger’s TOOTH AND CLAW (2003), and Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s INHERIT THE WIND (1955). The Magic Theatre has been invited to open the next BioAgenda Summit in 2007.
