SUBMISSIONS Playwrights and creative teams may submit proposals or early drafts of plays for commission from the Sloan Initiative. The program encourages a breadth and range of topics and forms – providing the issues, characters, settings, or plots in some way address the disciplines in the ‘hard’ sciences (i.e. mathematics, biotechnology, physics, etc. as opposed to psychology, psychiatry, sociology, etc.). Topics can be contemporary or historical. Straight science fiction and plays about medical conditions are discouraged. Proposals should be one page, including project description, synopsis or outline, and be accompanied by a professional résumé or biography. Drafts should be full-length in any genre and in process (i.e. no production history). Final decisions on plays and proposals will be made by a selection committee comprised of members of the artistic staff of Magic Theatre, as well as members of the Bay Area’s leading-edge scientific community. |
COMMISSIONS Commissions for proposals or drafts are awarded to individual playwrights and creative teams for full-length plays, and interdisciplinary performance theatre. Rewrite commissions will be awarded on a script-by-script basis, with commissions ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Proposal commissions will be awarded on a case-by-case basis, with commissions ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. Research support and deadlines for drafts will be determined appropriately case by case. We encourage people submitting to contact us with any questions about specifics. Contact Sloan Program Coordinator, Mark Routhier, at markr@magictheatre.org or 415 441 8001 x19. |
