INternships at magic Theatre
Magic Theatre guarantees you will be in the thick of theatre operations. Interns receive hands-on training and experience while working side-by-side with top theatre professionals.
Magic Theatre currently offers Production and Artistic Internships. Each intern will work primarily in one of these departments. Depending on the theatre’s needs and the intern’s interests, interns may also occasionally be asked to work on special projects in other departments.
Dates and Time Commitment
Artistic Internships are offered during the following three sessions:
Fall – September through December. Deadline to apply August 1st.
Winter – January through May. Deadline to apply December 1st.
Summer – June through August. Deadline to apply April 1st.
Artistic interns are expected to work 16 hours per week (hours may be scheduled as two full days or spread throughout the week). Artistic Interns will also occasionally need to work on evenings or weekends to assist with auditions and festivals.
Production Internships are offered on a show-by-show basis. Hours are determined on an individual basis.
Artistic Interns work primarily in Casting, Literary, and as assistants to the Artistic Director. Depending on the theatre’s needs and the intern’s interests, the intern may specialize in one of these areas, or gain experience in all three.
In Casting, interns process headshot submissions, update the casting database, assist with auditions, and attend shows and report back to the casting director.
In Literary, interns log in and keep track of the 600-800 scripts received yearly, read and critique scripts for the Literary Manager, sit on the Literary Committee, and assist with staged reading festivals.
As assistants to the Artistic Director, interns work in the Artistic Director’s office assisting with day-to-day tasks such as taking phone calls and scheduling meetings, as well as working on special projects such as dramaturgical research for productions and attending Artistic Staff meetings
